The overarching theme of the Space Explorer assembly is that observing light is the foundation of astronomy, so it’s natural that teaching astronomy showcases the importance of visible laser light. Children learn about the planets and the sun, time and space, the Mars Curiosity Rover, and the many laser-powered instruments that are integral to a space probe’s mission. What can be more exciting than lasers that can disintegrate Martian rocks!? Then they travel back in time to discover the history of the constellations and the contributions of Copernicus and Galileo to our current understanding of space.
